How can therapy help me?

I tailor each client’s treatment plan to their individual needs, with a solution-focused and compassionate approach. Together, we’ll identify triggers and challenges, process them, and practice new coping strategies until they feel natural.

My approach includes:

  • DBT-informed therapy (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to support mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • Certified Intuitive Eating therapy to help clients heal from diet culture and rebuild trust with food and body.

  • Eating disorder treatment expertise, including extensive training through the Carolyn Costin Institute and experience at higher levels of care. I often incorporate the 8 Keys to Recovery in sessions.

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma and PTSD.

  • Health at Every Size® and anti-diet philosophy, creating a safe, supportive environment where you can step away from the pressure to shrink your body and instead move toward self-acceptance and joy.

Who am I?

I’m Carianne (she/her), a therapist passionate about helping clients find peace with food and their bodies. As a former dieter, I know firsthand how painful negative self-talk and body image struggles can feel. Like many of my clients, I’m on my own lifelong journey toward radical self-love.

Outside of therapy, I love reading both mental health books and a good thriller or romance novel. I also practice mindfulness and enjoy long walks in nature.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes! I provide secure telehealth therapy and am licensed in: New Jersey, Florida, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, Louisiana, and South Carolina.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. I see clients in my Manasquan, NJ office on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings.

Local areas served include: Manasquan, Brielle, Wall Township, Point Pleasant, Spring Lake, and Belmar.

What are your fees and insurance policies?

Shore Wellness Counseling is an out-of-network, direct-pay practice.

  • Payment is due at the time of your session.

  • We’ll provide a detailed receipt (superbill) you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

  • Please check with your insurance company about your out-of-network benefits before starting therapy. I can provide CPT codes that can be helpful when calling your insurance company.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to reschedule, please contact me by phone, text, or email at least 24 hours in advance. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee, which is not reimbursable by insurance.

This policy helps me respect the schedules of all clients and ensures that openings can be offered to those waiting for support.

What is your social media policy?

To protect your confidentiality and maintain healthy boundaries, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.). This helps keep our therapeutic relationship clear and private.

If you have questions about this policy, feel free to bring them up in session.

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. You’ll also have space to ask me questions and get a feel for whether I’m the right fit for you.

How long will therapy take?

There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some clients come for short-term support to address a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term therapy as they work through deeper patterns around food, body image, or trauma. We’ll collaborate to find a pace that feels right for you.

Do you only work with eating disorders?

While I specialize in eating disorders and binge eating, I also support clients with:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Relationship challenges

  • Life transitions

  • Stress management

  • Mood disorders

How do you help with binge eating?

Binge eating can feel overwhelming and isolating. My approach combines Intuitive Eating, self-compassion practices, and skills from DBT to help you:

  • Understand and reduce the triggers behind binge eating

  • Break free from the restrict-binge cycle

  • Build coping strategies that don’t rely on food

  • Develop a more peaceful relationship with your body

Do you help clients who want to lose weight?

I do not provide weight-loss counseling. Instead, I follow an anti-diet, weight-inclusive approach that helps clients care for their bodies without focusing on shrinking them. Together, we’ll shift the focus from weight to values, self-trust, and overall well-being.

What if I’m not sure I have an eating disorder?

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to seek support. Many of my clients simply feel “out of control” around food, struggle with negative body image, or are tired of cycling through diets. Therapy can be a helpful step no matter where you are in your journey.

Do you work with parents or loved ones of someone struggling with an eating disorder?

Yes. I support parents and loved ones who want to better understand eating disorders and learn how to provide compassionate, non-stigmatizing support.
